how does an ETF (exchange traded fund) tracks its underlying asset?

we know that in reality market mechanism is imperfect, i.e. market traders do not have perfect knowledge of the underlying asset, therefore the demand/supply of market trading should distort the tracking mechanism of ETF. Hence, how would the closing price of an ETF eventually manage to track the underlying asset as closely as possible?
